I have heard several pastors describe three types of people critical to successful missions:
- Those who pray
- Those who pay
- Those who go
I was quite comfortable in the pray and pay groups and, quite frankly, had never considered going on a missions trip prior to meeting Rebecca of Promised Provision Ministries (PPM). But in March 2008, I responded to their invitation to visit Leogane and see firsthand the work being accomplished by PPM.
The sounds, sights and smells of extreme poverty assault your senses with such a force that it leaves you stunned for days. I think most of us spend our first week in Haiti in tears. It was an odd paradox to experience this devastatingly, poor country inhabited by some of the most loving and giving people I’ve ever met. You cannot help but to fall in love with a nation of joyful people who shine in the most hopeless conditions. They are the embodiment of Faith.
To a people with so little, I struggled with what I could give or do to help improve their situations. For quite some time last year, I struggled with what I should do and how I could help. Then my Pastor spoke of how the most important thing we can do as Christians is to love one another as Christ loves us. In that moment, my role became clear; I am to be a Minister of Love! I distribute hugs, kisses, prayers, and encouragement to the girls and they fill my life with love, laughter and joy.
I believe God extends everyone invitations to participate in His plan. Those invitations may come through prayer, from pastors, or from friends who need your help with advancing their cause or ministry. I have learned this past year, that when you step out of your comfort zone and into God’s Will; the magnitude of His love that fills your life is beyond anything you can experience or feel on your own.
God’s greatest command is to love Him above all else and love others as He loves you. I think He commands this of us because He knows by obeying His command our lives will overflow with the greatest love of all; God’s everlasting, amazing love.
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To God be the glory forever! Amen Romans 11:36
Robin desires above all else to obey and serve God. She does so in a quiet, humble manner we have come to love so much. To our founder and missionaries, she is a ‘compass’ of discernment and a voice of reason when it comes to the business end of running a ministry. To those we serve, she is loving hands and feet on the ground in Haiti. She serves, she serves, she serves…. Her gentle heart combined with her spirit of generosity and ability to remain focused on objectives truly make Robin a Minister of Love that God works through in amazing ways!
