While serving as a missionary with PPM is one of the great joys in Deborah's life, she also finds her role as a certified Health Minister extremely rewarding and loves to share her wealth of knowledge with others.
While overall health and well-being are dependant on numerous factors, Deborah has learned through personal experience that one of the basic foundations for wellness is juicing.
She enthusiastically teaches people in the U.S. how to attain and maintain optimal health through improved nutrition and healthier lifestyle choices. It was only a short leap for us to decide to utilize her enthusiasm and knowledge to help the people we serve in Haiti.
We supplied the girls' home with a juicer and Deborah taught several of the girls how to properly use it, clean it, and maintain it. Unfortunately, the juicer is not used to it's full advantage because of the price of fresh vegetables is prohibitive and the cost of gas to run the generator also makes it very expensive. As funds permit us to more fully take advantage of this incredible tool, we hope to be able to provide life-giving juice to others as a way for our girls to earn money for the home while truly contributing to the well-being of others in their community.
Most recently the juicer made it possible for us to provide comfort to a terminal cancer victim in Pastor Joseph's congregation. Having no medical insurance, Gabrielle had been diagnosed and sent home to die. She had advanced-stage breast tumor and was suffering terrible pain which also resulted in her inability to sleep. Although we were only able to provide her with two glasses of juice per day for several months, the addition of this nourishment reduced her level of pain and she gratefully reported being able to sleep through the night.
