January 16, 2010 - Earthquake Update 5
We received a call from Roody this morning asking us for two types of assistance: (1) help in securing vital medical supplies from the U.S. Marines who are dispensing medications that were flown into Haiti yesterday for the medical team attempting to help the injured at the New Missions school complex directly across the street from pastor's house and (2) help in convincing the U.S. Department of State to remove Darline from Leogane to a safe haven in Port-au-Prince while the authorities are deciding how to handle pending adoptions.
(1) If you have any connections with the U.S. Marines, please have them contact me at (813) 679-4914.
(2) As for relieving Roody of the life-threatening responsibility for Darline's safety, Jerry and I ask that you PLEASE forward the following message to your friends, coworkers, church family members, etc. asking them to add their name at the bottom of it and forward it on to: askci@state.gov
This is a mailbox set up by the U.S. Department of State to help them prioritize and determine how to cope with the issues affecting the children of Haiti, especially those who are pending adoption to parents in the U.S. There is strength in numbers, so we would appreciate it very much if you would take a moment to read this message, edit it to reflect your own opinions if you'd like to and send your thoughts to them so our government officials can make their decisions with the knowledge of the desires of the American people.
Roody is going to try to call several times today so we can let him know what, if any, updates we may have received from the Department of State. He said to tell everyone here how much everyone there values our love and prayers and asked that we continue to cover them in prayer because "We REALLY, REALLY need it right now".
A group of men came to pastor's house this morning and stripped it of the stove, some tools and other items. Roody says he cannot venture into the house because the ground is still shaking and it could collapse further while he was inside, so he does not know nor does he care at this point what they took. He was just relieved that they left the girls alone except for some lewd language and moved onto another home. He is however, VERY concerned for their safety in consideration of the gang activity and has begged us to do whatever we can to get Darline out of there. Her continued presence constitutes a real danger to both her and him.
That's all of the news we have received thus far. Unfortunately, it is more than enough to have to deal with today. Thank you again for your prayers and support. We are so grateful for our family in Christ.
